Disney's Aladdin- We’ll be watching it over and over again. here’s why!

The long wait ended today!  We finally saw the live adaptation of Aladdin.  When Disney initially advertised it, I thought oh boy, here we go! I was convinced that it would never be able to replace the original animated version with the ever so talented Robin Williams, whom I absolutely loved . As I saw it pop up during commercial breaks more and more, I thought I have to see it and of of course my J girl kept reminding me of the premier date. I was even more intrigued when I saw the original Fresh Prince of Bel Air, the one and only Will Smith starring as he is another favorite of mine.

Let me say right now, this was an AWESOME remake to the original! One of my all time favorite childhood Disney cartoons was back and in my opinion even better than the original. Yes I said it….BETTER than the original. Aladdin is filled with humor, colorful costumes that were absolutley stunning, and music that was a mix of hip hop, with Mardi Gras. “Friend Like Me” and “Prince Ali were Journee’s favorites. She’s still singing both songs everyday. She has the right tunes down but of course she is adding in her own lyrics here and there.

I’ll admit, I wanted to getup and dance as I watched the filmed. I could see other viewers especially the kids bouncing and moving in their seats to the music. Journee would get up and dance in the aisle, this was totally her fortay. Even my husband bopped his head from side to side during “Prince Ali”. Disney really got creative and took a little bit of old and mixed in a whole lot of new in just the right places throughout the story and we absolutely loved it.

It takes a lot to wow my 6 year old and my husband! My daughter was well entertained, and was glued to the screen the entire time. She even laughed out super loud on a few occasions. I think she was most fascinated with the Genie, Abu and the magic carpet. Let me say right now, WILL. SMITH. KILLED. IT! He played the part so well and exceeded my expectations as the Genie. I almost forgot that this role had been played in the past by Robin Williams. At no point did I even think to compare the two!

As for me, When the popular “A Whole New World” played I literally lost it and started singing out loud with excitement. A quick side eye from my husband brought me back to reality. I had forgotten that I was at the movies instead of my shower. I used to used to play A Whole New World on repeat when I was a kid

Speaking of a whole new world, the beautiful princess Jasmine was much more vocal about what she wanted for her future compared to her animated version. My kind of girl! J was fascinated by her pet too, and no it wasn’t a dog, cat, or a monkey. You’ll have to watch to see. J also ooed and ahhhed at all of her jewelry and outfits. I have such a girly girl. She said, “mommy are you looking at her outfit and jewelry? I can wear the same outfits for character day at school!” Thanks Disney, you get her every time.

Now on to Aladdin, the young, cute, witty, and energetic street rat that stole Jasmine’s heart. We absolutely loved him just as we did in the original. Unlike all the other Disney princes, he’s just a regular guy living amongst the locals looking for purpose in life. He comes from anything but royalty. Instead he’s rather “poor” but  he hold on to his dreams regardless.

All in all, this was an excellent remake to the original and great for all ages. My husband, Journee and I all enjoyed it and I know you will too!
